Darius Tutwiler, better known as Tutweezy, is a widely recognized social media personality. Tutweezy made a name for himself by making crowds roar during his standup comedy sets and producing hilarious skits on his Instagram account. This virally popular social media star has gained over 700,000 Instagram followers, and his fan base continues to grow.
The self-proclaimed “roast master” knew early on that comedy was his calling. Tutweezy dropped out of The University of Memphis after his sophomore year of college to commit to his dreams of becoming a full-time comedian. When he first dropped out, he did not have a clear vision of what exactly he wanted to do, all he knew was that he wanted to make people laugh. He feared telling his family that he dropped out of school, so he faced nights where he did not know where he was going to sleep or what he was going to eat before eventually finding success. His journey of becoming a comedian started at small-scale local open-mics and some events surrounding his school.
In the age of social media, Tutweezy was able to build a huge fan base by posting quality comedic content on Twitter, Snapchat, Youtube, and Instagram. His first viral videos involved using a green screen and video-editing skills to place himself in famous movies and commercials, adding his special comedic edge to them. The star states, “The day I realized I was going in the right direction was when Odell Beckham Jr [New York Giants Player] sent me a message in my inbox and wanted me to come hangout with him. From that day I knew that this comedy route I was taking was the right one.”
