Kenny Alexander
Artist
Kenneth Alexander was born in Memphis, TN. He is an artist who fused traditional, and digital art styles to create a new vision. His love for creating music and having synesthesia gave him the foresight to create a healthy merger between his artistic abilities and auditory aptitudes. From this merger, NOVI Arts was born and has grown into its own innovative name and ethos. An alumnus of Overton High in Memphis, TN, Kenneth has always been passionate about creating different forms of art, e.g., from hand drawings to designing buildings in CAD from a very young age. As he progressed in his style and techniques, so did his imagination. When he attended Tuskegee University, college expenses got too high to continue working in his traditional medium. So, he applied the digital aspect of motion and collaging to make his own signature style. He began curating art shows and being featured in art shows garnered him attention from around the nation. The Brooks Museum of Art in Memphis, TN has also shown their support for his work. “Surreal Kingdoms”, an exhibition by Kenneth himself, was shown in conjunction with the Smithsonian’s “The Art of Video Games” in 2015 for 6 months.
As the keynote speaker for the 2016 Scholastic art competition, he helped inspire a new generation of artists to pursue their dream and make them a reality. Kenneth has set a new path for artists to follow and succeed. Kenneth has shown the qualities that humankind possesses throughout his work and hopes that it motivates others to be creative in order to produce their own art businesses.
In other layers of his work, he wants to give trauma other universes to move to and live in. Kenneth wants the Black experience to be propelled, seen and appreciated at the international level and thrive well into the future globally.
Kenneth uses mixed media within his pieces by combining acrylic paint and digital collages to create a “stop motion effect”. This multi-media artist has created a new way view surreal realms by depicting different universes that he has seen through vivid dreams, depression, anxiety and an intense imagination. As the artist continues within his medium, it elevates his surreal thoughts and visions to new heights.
