As a cautionary tale of how the future treats the past, Michael's coming of age represents the matriculation of hip hop as a culture against a climate of appropriation, an redirection of its core traditions and central narrative. World of the Iron Mic and its subsequent web series, Tales of the Iron Mic chronicle how changes in the Diaspora can alter the future in dangerous ways.
